Meet Katie

Hello, My name is Katie. I grew up in the enormous family of four (two parents and two children). I am the youngest and only girl. When I was little I dreamed of being an artist. When I graduated from high school, I attended college as an art major. After three years of taking art classes I came to the realization that there is no future in art (at least not for me). From that moment on I switched my major five times in one semester then transferred to a community college and got my associates in Early Childhood Education.

I have worked in child care formally for ten years, but spent most of my teenage job experience being a nanny and babysitting. I loved working with children. I have worked with ages 0 to 12 years old. From my time with other people’s children, I fell in love with the idea of being a mother and having my own children. I decided my goal was to be a stay at home mom (something that my awesome sauce mother always wanted to be, but never could make happen).

I met my husband through a mutual friend (thanks Matt!) and told him to get lost. After much persuasion, I realized that he was the best guy in the universe and dated him, then married him. We were married in the Latter Day Saint Denver Temple for time and all eternity. He is my best friend and Superman for dealing with such a crazy lady.

Superman helped me achieve my goal of finishing college. We transferred to Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. I completed my degree in Human Development and Family Studies while having our first baby (our astounding daughter, Princess Pea). I constantly look into furthering my understanding and knowledge of human development and family dynamics.

I love to read and have been known to read over 800 pages in less than five hours. I am constantly on the search for books that are clean and benevolent. I am a sucker for a good book. I try to only read the best of books because I have found that the books I read affect my mood and then affect my family. I have found a similar (but not as powerful) occurrence with other media (like TV). I am always working on improving what I spend my entertainment time on.

My favorite color is yellow, my favorite food is either sushi, steak, or chocolate (it’s hard to choose). I love to hang out with all my family (extended and immediate). I am a nerd. I love Zelda, young adult fantasy books, and sometimes indulge in the anime and manga (but not too often as much if it is vulgar). I love to bake and cook. Superman would argue that I am too adventurous in the kitchen. I don’t make my own recipes, but I love Pinterest.

I tend to be a homebody, but Princess Pea is not, so it’s a balance of getting out and staying in. We go to the library a lot, the zoo, the children’s museum, play dates, etc. I will admit that I have a TV addiction. I have a hard time with the quiet. There is always some source of noise going on in our house. I am working towards breaking away from TV so much and fill my life with more meaningful activities.

I love animals, but have no pets. I always dreamed of living on a farm until I did an internship at a farm. I still want a menagerie of pets, but I also don’t like the added stress and expense. Someday I will have a house and a beehive (maybe a couple of ducks for eggs).

I have the attention span of a goldfish. I struggle to focus and stay on topic for more than three seconds. This leads to a lot of fun conversations and unfinished craft projects around the house. I like to teach myself how to do things (like sewing). I am an abysmal house keeper, but life is all about improving.

I love my church. I love my religion and I love learning about other people’s beliefs. I like finding the similarities in our Faiths. I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I know who I am, I know God’s plan, I follow Him in Faith… (if you’re a member, you just sang that). I am a research nerd and love to research conference talks, scripture commentary, and the scriptures. I am so grateful for this life and the wonderful things I get to learn and do. Life is the best.

Anyway, that’s me in less than 800 words, I’d love to get to know you too!
